Dr. Irene Barnett was born and raised on the beautiful island of Hawaii which taught her the importance of ohana (family) and treating people as though they are a part of her family.
At Intermountain Healthcare, Dr. Barnett is an internal medicine and senior care provider, seeing adult patients of all different ages and backgrounds. She specializes in nephrology – kidney care and diseases of the kidneys – and is passionate about assisting those with chronic renal disease. Her favorite part of the job, however, is simply assisting patients as they achieve better health and quality of life. Dr. Barnett is not one to back down from a challenge either and is enthusiastic about difficult-to-identify cases and finding solutions for her patients.
When she is not working, Dr. Barnett is an avid reader and especially loves novels as they are a great escape mechanism and wonderful for her imagination. Dr. Barnett is married and the couple have two dogs. If she were not a physician, Dr. Barnett said she would not know what she would be doing as she has been doing it for so long, but that she is interested in teaching.
Dr. Barnett received her bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology from the University of Hawaii and her medical degree from John A. Burns School of Medicine in Honolulu, Hawaii. She completed her internal medicine residency at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Barnett is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
