You may have already heard that the COVID-19 vaccine is being administered in several foreign countries and that frontline workers in healthcare will be the first in line to receive the vaccine in the United States. While a vaccination for most people living in the U.S. is months away, health departments predict that the general public should be able to receive the COVID-19 vaccine by summer 2021.
Data has indicated that the two COVID-19 vaccines currently entering the market may be 95 percent effective. The FDA only approves vaccines that meet its strict measures for safety and effectiveness. Anyone, even those patients who have already had COVID-19, should consider getting the vaccine. The COVID-19 vaccine will be distributed at no cost to patients.
Each state will have its own plan for how the vaccine will be prioritized and distributed, and Intermountain will be working to ensure all our patients have access in accordance with the guidance released by each state.
